Montague Wet Vs Dry Route

If you’re wondering about whether or not to do the wet or dry option of the Montague Honey Badger here’s a quick primer for you. If the roads down there have been dry for 3-5 days and there hasn’t been any real rain, then the dry route is a good choice. The climb up Townsend Rd is for the most part more gentle than the Hovey Gulch Snowden Rd option on the wet route. I said for the most part. There’s definitely some steep bits and ultimately, both roads get to the same point. Townsend Rd is dirt instead of gravel and you can expect to see ZERO car traffic on it. It’s that dirt and not gravel base that makes it impassable in wet conditions. It turns to sticky, heavy mud that clings to everything. In short order your wheels will stop rolling, the bike will weight twice as much as it does clean, and your shoes will look like platform boots. Not fun. So if there’s been rain in the 3-4 days prior to you ride, choose the wet route option.
