I’ve decided that I’m not going to update the Honey Badger Rides Facebook page with new events for each and every ride. I’ve always created a new event page for each ride a few weeks before the ride and put in all the pertinent info, including links to GPS routes, course descriptions, start locations, and parking info. It seems that every time I make an event, the next few days are filled with folks asking for clarification about the ride and it’s details. Questions routinely pop up like, “The page says the ride starts at noon. That’s not right is it?” I do some digging and FB has changed the time zone to Eastern Standard Time. “Does the Greensprings ride really start in Keno? That seems fo far away?” Look under the FB hood and the pin that it drops when you choose Greensprings for the location is no where near the actual ride. Once it even picked a mall in Virginia. That was interesting. Never mind having to deal with the typical FB algorithm. It’s next to impossible to get the ride to show up on folks feed reliably.
So starting now, I’ll still use Zuckerberg’s monster, but instead of creating a new event page for each and every ride, I’ll make a post on FB about the ride and link everyone back to here for all the details. If you roll over to the FB page you’ll see a post basically saying what I just old you, a link to the website, and a picture of the ride flyer with all the ride dates listed.
On another note, I won’t be able to attend my own ride at Lost Creek Lake this weekend. I’ll be out of town for work, attending a conference that I need to keep my certifications current. I’m bummed. It’s looking to be great weather and it’s a beautiful ride. Please remember to be kind and look out for each other. I’ll see everyone at the last ride of 2024, Juanita Lake.
