It’s the time of year here in the Rogue Valley where the snow has made the higher elevation rides a distant dream of next summer. The fog down on the valley floor gives morning rides a chill that is downright polar. So where to go if you want to get out of the fog, into the sun, and on some quiet paved and gravel roads? The Shasta Valley, that’s where! It’s a short drive over Siskiyou Summit and there’s plenty of options, from full day epics to hour long cruises to shake the legs out. Lots of options to help keep the holiday pounds off. Cruise on over to the routes page and check out the Montague and Weed Honey Badger routes. Remember you can always modify the route to fit your fitness and time constraints. The only thing to consider about the Shasta Valley is the wind. It can really get to blowing, so I like to check the weather report before I head over the pass. I’ll also check out TripCheck to see what the roads look like. In January and February there’s going to be two Honey Badger rides in the Shasta Valley, so between now and then is a great time to get some miles in and scout the routes out.
